![]() Sulphur Reducing Bacteria (SRB) attack steel tank bottoms and has become a major problem throughout the industry. These series of photographs show holed out underground fuel tank that was repaired using engineering grade compounds and over coated with chemical and SRB resistant products. This particular tank was back in service within 24 hours. Kemsley PowerStation main fire water sprinkler tank (400m³ capacity). The tank is of a bolted construction on a concrete plinth and internally lined in Butyl rubber. It was leaking from the full circumference where the steel meets the concrete. ![]() Internal inspection showed the initial lining was folded and poorly fitted thus causing stress due to head pressure when the tank was in service. The liner was removed from the base to fully expose the concrete plinth and obvious leak paths. ![]() Using flexible structural adhesive and scrim the leak paths were sealed and then over coated with a fast set polyurethane resin.
